It is first time in the history of Homoeopathy in India that a state of art virology laboratory has been inaugurated by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, the union Minster of State ( Independent charge), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, at Dr. Anjali Chatterjee Regional Research Institute in Homoeopathy, Kolkata, on 12.9.2017, in the presence of eminent scientists viz. Padmashree Dr. V. K. Gupta, Chairman Scientific Advisory Committee, CCRH, New Delhi; Padmashree (Prof.) Ajoy Roy, Director, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEHT), Howrah; Dr. Rathin Chakravarty, Member, Scientific Advisory Committee, CCRH, New Delhi; Dr. Raj K. Manchanda, Director General, CCRH, New Delhi and many other scientists and dignitaries.
In his inaugural speech the Hon’ble Minister appreciated the popularity of Homoeopathy in West Bengal. He stated that this laboratory has been established keeping in view of some important objectives –
a) To conduct research on prevalent viral diseases such as Influenza, Japanese encephalitis, Dengue, Chickungunya and Swine flu.
b) To develop new drugs and technologies in Homoeopathy to combat emerging challenges of viral diseases.
In this context the Hon’ble Minister expressed his satisfaction of recognising this laboratory by the Calcutta University to undertake research work of the PhD students in Homoeopathy. On this occasion he also mentioned about the National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH), which is imparting higher education and training in Homoeopathy, also under the Ministry of AYUSH, and urges that both the Institute could forge an active collaboration on practical training to the students/ scholars in virus research, both in laboratory and in the field research, jointly.
He also expressed his happiness to learn about the Council’s initiatives of establishing a Centre of Excellence in Fundamental Research in Homoeopathy at IIEHT, Howrah, to undertake fundamental research studies in Homoeopathy with an interdisciplinary approach, with the involvement of faculties of various departments. The major thrust areas of the laboratory will be :
• To investigate and standardise on the nature of homoeopathic substance in terms of it’s composition, molecular structure and physical characterization.
• To draw evidence of biological activity of homoeopathic preparations through experimental models with high degree of reproducibility
• To undertake high end research for understanding the pathway target and action sites of homoeopathic medicines.
• To possibly explore on information template in homoeopathic substance particularly in high dilutions as proposed hypothetical model.
The Hon’ble Minister also apprised that this Institute is treating about 400 patients / day through their OPD services and also providing AYUSH Out Reach services in villages. He also informed that apart from these, this Institute has undertaken several clinical research studies and to name a few of them are – Autism, Psoriasis, Vitiligo, Breast cancer, Hypertension, Migraine and Proving of new drugs in Homeopathy with their clinical validations.
The Director General CCRH, while welcoming the dignitaries expressed his satisfaction and gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister for gracing this occasion by his kind presence, in spite of his busy schedule in Delhi. He applauded the Hon’ble Minister for sanctioning the required fund open handed to develop the infrastructure of this laboratory whenever it was required, even when there was constrains of fund in other Ministries. He informed that the Hon’ble Minister always encouraged him to come forward with new proposals for the betterment of Homoeopathic system of Medicine and never deprived him to give his full support in the advancement of various research projects, to encourage collaborative approaches with the Institutes of excellence with good proposals, inviting scientists from abroad for exchange of knowledge and in signing many MOUs with other countries for the betterment of the system. He expressed emotionally that without his active support from behind the curtain, it was never possible to build up this state of art Institute in Virology research at Kolkata. He also extended his thanks from the core of his heart to all the dignitaries for gracing this occasion by their kind presence. He thanked the galaxy of scientists present over here for their support, co-operation, and constant encouragement by moving with hand to hand, for the better prospect of homoeopathy.
Padmashree Dr. V.K.Gupta, Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of CCRH expressed that practicing homoeopathy with only clinical acumen is not a satisfactory reply to the criticisers of Homoeopathy and to combat with such criticisms we need to reply in language of modern science. The Director IIEHT, Padmashree Prof. Ajoy Roy stressed upon to hold an integrated approach in pursuing research in the field of Homoeopathy highlighting a joint venture effort while Dr. Rathin Chakravarty, member SAC, of CCRH, applauded the Hon’ble Minister and the Govt. for their generous patronisation for building up this project.
